TFSA Calculator: how it works
Based on annual Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) dollar limits from 2009 to 2026 published by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
What this calculator does
This tool calculates your total Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) contribution room. Enter the year you became a Canadian resident and turned 18, and it adds up every annual limit you have accumulated since you became eligible, so you can see how much you can contribute without an over-contribution penalty.
Who should use this
It is for residents of Canada who want to know their exact TFSA limit before depositing money: newcomers who became eligible part-way through the years, young adults reaching 18, and anyone who has never tracked their cumulative room. It is also useful before moving money between accounts so you do not accidentally exceed your limit.
How to read your results
The result is your cumulative contribution room, assuming you have never contributed. If you have existing TFSA holdings, subtract what you have already put in; remember that withdrawals are only added back the following calendar year. Staying at or under this number keeps your growth and withdrawals completely tax-free, while going over it triggers a monthly penalty from the CRA.
Limitations and official sources
This is an estimate based on the residency and age details you enter and assumes no prior contributions. It cannot see your real CRA records, re-contributions of past withdrawals, or transfers, and eligibility starts only once you are both 18 and a Canadian resident. Always confirm your official room in your CRA My Account before contributing.
