Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-06-22

Live in Canada ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website www.liveincanada.ca (the "Site"). This is a static informational blog hosted on Azure Storage and delivered through Cloudflare CDN. We do not operate servers that process personal data, maintain user databases, or require account registration. This Privacy Policy explains what limited information processing occurs when you visit our Site, primarily through third-party services we use.

Information We Collect

As a static website, we do not directly collect or store personal information on our own servers or databases. However, the third-party services we use - Cloudflare (CDN and security), Google Analytics (traffic analysis), and Google AdSense (advertising) - may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit our Site. We do not require account registration or login, and we do not collect age, gender, or other demographic information.

Information Collected Automatically by Third-Party Services

When you visit our Site, our third-party service providers may automatically collect certain technical information. Cloudflare, as our CDN and security provider, processes your IP address and request headers to deliver content and protect against threats. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, visit duration, and referrer URL to help us understand traffic patterns. Google AdSense may use cookies and analytics identifiers to serve relevant advertisements. We do not have direct access to raw personal data collected by these services - we only receive aggregated, anonymized analytics reports.

Information You Provide Voluntarily

The only personal information you may voluntarily provide is through our contact form, which sends your name, email address, and message content directly to our email. This information is not stored in any database or server we operate - it is simply delivered as an email. We do not operate any user registration, login, membership, newsletter, or mailing list system.

Legal Basis for Processing

Because we are a static blog that does not directly collect or store personal data, the legal basis for data processing primarily applies to the third-party services we use:

Canada (PIPEDA): We do not directly hold personal information subject to PIPEDA. The third-party services we use (Google, Cloudflare) process data in accordance with their own PIPEDA compliance obligations. Where applicable, if you submit information through our contact form, the resulting email is handled under standard email practices. You may contact us at any time regarding contact form communications.

European Union (GDPR): Cloudflare operates under legitimate interest for security and content delivery. Google Analytics and Google AdSense use cookies that require your consent under EU/EEA law. We only activate these services after you give consent through our cookie banner. Since we do not maintain personal data records, GDPR rights such as access, rectification, and erasure should be directed to the relevant service providers: Google (https://myaccount.google.com) and Cloudflare (https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/).

California (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. We do not maintain databases of personal data. Where applicable, if you submitted a contact form email and wish it deleted, reach us at [email protected].

How We Use Information

The limited information processing that occurs through our Site serves the following purposes: to deliver website content reliably through Cloudflare CDN; to understand overall traffic patterns and popular content through aggregated Google Analytics reports; to display advertisements through Google AdSense to support the Site; to respond to inquiries submitted through our contact form; and to maintain Site security through Cloudflare's protection services. We do not use information to build user profiles, personalize content for individual users, conduct direct marketing, or make automated decisions about visitors.

AI Assistant (On-device AI)

We offer an optional AI assistant ("Ask AI") that answers questions using our published articles. It is currently available only in a limited set of languages (English, Japanese, Spanish, German, and French) and only on supported browsers and devices; in other languages, or where your browser or device does not support on-device AI, the assistant is not shown or simply offers setup guidance. Where it is supported (for example, desktop Chrome with Google's on-device Gemini Nano model, or Microsoft Edge with Microsoft's on-device Phi-4-mini model), your question is processed locally on your own device by the browser's built-in on-device AI. For this on-device mode, we do not send your question to our servers, and we do not store your questions or the assistant's answers. The assistant runs only when you open it and submit a question. The browser's built-in AI is provided by your browser vendor and is subject to that vendor's terms and privacy practices. Answers are generated automatically from our content and may be inaccurate or incomplete; please also read our Terms of Service and Disclaimer. The assistant is currently a preview (experimental) feature and may change or be unavailable at any time.

Third-Party Services

Our Site relies on several third-party services. These services may collect and process information according to their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

Google AdSense: We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on our Site. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to collect information about your visits to our Site and other websites in order to serve relevant advertisements. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing activity. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings at https://adssettings.google.com.

Google Analytics (Firebase): We use Google Analytics (Firebase) to understand overall traffic patterns on our Site. This service is only activated after you give consent through our cookie banner. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, visit duration, and general geographic location. We only access aggregated reports and cannot identify individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cloudflare: Our Site is delivered through Cloudflare's content delivery network (CDN), which also provides DNS management, DDoS protection, and security services. Cloudflare processes technical information such as IP addresses and request headers to deliver content and protect against threats. For more information, refer to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

Affiliate Partners: Our Site contains affiliate or referral links to third-party services, including Wealthsimple, Chexy, and Great Canadian Rebates. When you click on these links, you are redirected to the respective third-party website, which may collect information according to its own privacy policy. We do not receive any personal data about you from these affiliate partners.

Advertising and Cookies

Non-essential cookies from Google Analytics and Google AdSense are disabled by default and only activated after you consent through our cookie banner. If you reject non-essential cookies, analytics and personalized advertising stay off; where permitted, ads may still be shown in a non-personalized, contextual form that is not based on your browsing history. You can change your preferences at any time using Cookie Settings in the footer. To opt out of personalized advertising from Google, you can also visit Google Ad Settings at https://adssettings.google.com.

Your Rights

Because we do not maintain databases of personal information, our ability to fulfill data rights requests is limited. Here is what applies:

  • Right of Access: We do not store personal data in our own systems, so there is no personal data we can provide. Any data collected through embedded third-party services (Google, Cloudflare) is held by those companies, not by us.
  • Right of Correction: If you have contacted us via our contact form and need to correct information in your message, please send a follow-up email to [email protected].
  • Right of Deletion: We can delete contact form emails upon request at [email protected]. We do not hold any other personal data.
  • Right to Object: We do not conduct direct marketing or build user profiles. To opt out of personalized advertising, adjust your Google Ad Settings. To opt out of analytics tracking, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
  • Right to Data Portability: We do not maintain personal data records, so there is no data to export.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You can withdraw cookie consent at any time through our Cookie Settings, which stops analytics and advertising data processing.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clicking Cookie Settings in the footer. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.
  • Right to Lodge a Complaint: If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.
  • Automated Decision-Making: We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

For any privacy-related questions or requests concerning contact form emails, please reach out to [email protected]. For data held by third-party services (Google, Cloudflare), please contact those providers directly.

Data Security

Our Site is served exclusively over HTTPS, ensuring that all data transmitted between your browser and our content delivery network is encrypted. As a static site, we do not operate application servers or databases that could be compromised. Site security is managed by Cloudflare, which provides DDoS protection, threat mitigation, and SSL/TLS encryption. Our static content is hosted on Microsoft Azure Storage with enterprise-grade security. While these measures provide strong protection, no method of Internet transmission is completely secure.

Data Retention

We do not maintain our own databases or data storage systems for personal information. Contact form submissions are received as emails and retained for a reasonable period to respond to and follow up on inquiries. Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics according to its default retention settings. Cloudflare retains security logs according to its own data retention policies.

International Data Transfers

Our website is hosted on Microsoft Azure in Canada. We do not collect or transfer personal data ourselves. However, Cloudflare, Google Analytics, and Google AdSense are operated on their respective companies' global infrastructure, and data may be processed outside Canada as part of their services. Google participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Cloudflare has implemented Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for EU data transfers. For details, refer to each provider's privacy documentation.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the third-party services we use, or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
